Brisbane - learn to look UP!

December 23rd 2006 08:24
As in most parts of our lives we are so focused about what is ahead that we tend to forget to stop and look around us.
We walk through each day, staring at that little carrot dangling on the stick infront of our eyes that sometimes it is all that we ever see.
Sometimes we need to remember to look up for a little inspiration, or at least turn our heads around and see what else is in our world. We need to try and stop cramming so much into our daily lives that we forget the beauty that surrounds us.
take a slow stroll and, as they say, stop and smell the roses.

buildings house so many things, so much knowledge, so much happiness, so much joy, so much fear, so much sorrow...

Some take several lifetimes to complete. Their designs are painstakingly poured over to make them perfection.

So the next time you are in Brisbane take time to look around. Take time to look up. Take time to search and explore. Take time....

You may just be surprised!

Well written and photographed Ash,

I found out so much more about life and learned to appreciate what was around me when I took up Photography about 11 years ago.

That's when I had my first run with computer art and with writing serious, technical and just straight fiction and poetry [which I liked to do with one run, no corrections, just a quirky habit of mine].

The inspiration for poetry seems to have disappeared unfortunately, especially as I threw out all my copies, only because of space shortages and disc problems.

I regret that but it was my circumstances at the time and I still look up and about , under , through and behind and from various physical angles all learned by doing photography.

Unfortunately, often times it's only the photographer who appreciates the image.

Hi katyzzz
Yes photography teaches you to look at things from many different angles and find beauty in very simple things. As you say it is also a very personal thing - some people look at a photographers favourite picture and think, "hmmmm that`s pretty average."
Any form of art be it writing, drawing, painting, photography is an outlet for someone so I don`t think you will ever lose your touch - it means something to you and really that`s all that is important if it is something you enjoy. To have someone else share that joy with you is a definite bonus.
Thanks for stopping by. Look forward to many more of your artworks.

I've always wanted to go to Australia, it's so beautiful! I have friends who are going there for the holidays, to Brisbane to be more specific.

Hi Hope,
It is a beautiful place - I have been here for 3 years and I still have only seen a tiny, small part of it. And it is HUGE!
Hope your friends have a great holiday. Brisbane is a more relaxed city than most .... and a lot cleaner!!

Have a great Christmas and New Year.

Hi Ash,

I've lived in Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane and Brisbane is by far the most spectacular with it's laid back manner and old buildings all still intact... yes, I look up very often and see much beauty too... I love the statues they ave around the city too of historical figures, drovers, bowlers, miners, Kangaroos and pioneers of old... it always makes me feel like I am a part of walking history....a sense of continum witht he past and a feeling of it flowing into the future....a great city. ... and the big ole trees... are magnificent...

You would like London too and lots of Europe I bet...?

Hi Lilla,
Yeah cities hide many little treasures that go by unnoticed because I think the people that live in them take them for granted or are too busy to take the time to appreciate them.
I LOVE EUROPE! Rome is one of my most favourite cities - I could spend hours ROMing (haha I crack myself up!) the streets, London is beautiful too, Amsterdam is very picturesque with its canals and boats and such, Johannesburg is AN AMAZING city, howver you have to drive through very, very quickly or else you are a target for some misfortune or another....I could go on! I have been to many cities around the world, but like you say Brisbane has that laid-back attitude about it.
Glad you like the beauty of cities - there is much to discover there besides concrete and rude people!

Great photos, Ash! Even looking up in the Queen Street Mall can reveal some interesting architecture above the shop-fronts.

Have a great Christmas
