Glass House Mountains

October 25th 2006 23:16

The Glass House Mountains on Queensland's Sunshine Coast are an amazing sight. All completely different shapes and sizes they stand tall and proud and create a spectacular line on the horizon. When Captain Cook first saw them he said they reminded him of the shapes that he saw in the glass blowing factories in his homeland of England and hence named them so.

The Aboriginal people have their own legend that explains them which you can read on the Walkabout website. Their romantic tale is well worth the read.
As well as just being great to look at, if hiking if your thing there are some great walking trails around the area and if you are feeling really adventurous why not try your luck at a little mountain climbing to get a bird's eye view of the area?
If you are not up for that amount of energetic behaviour while away follow the tourist signs up to Mary Cairncross Lookout where you can sip on a freshly brewed tea and take in the breath taking scenery of the mountains in the distance. Make sure this is something you don`t miss out on your travels up the coast!
