Hervey Bay
December 6th 2006 21:26
As an avid traveller there are not many places I like to go more than once, but Hervey Bay is one of the few that I always seem to find my way back to. There is just something about the little town that is addictive - the aqua water, the pelicans waddling along the beach, the laid back backpacker atmosphere - the list goes on.
Wander down to The Esplanade where you find all the accommodation wants you could desire, from camping to upmarket backpackers to modern apartments. Do not overlook the whole camping experience - beach views, fresh sea breezes and only $10 a night. Plus across the road is a convenience store should you forget anything and a short stroll gets you to shops and travel agents galore.
If you are not a keen camper and are looking for somewhere a little more luxurious to stay I can also highly recommend The Bay which is a newly built block of self catering apartments. They have a heated pool, gym and some apartments have spa`s on their verandahs. The block is very secure and a walk across the road will take you onto the warm sandy beach. Jade Waters, also self catering apartments, will provide a very comfortable stay and the friendly on site managers are very friendly and helpful, recommending some great tours to embark on during your stay.
If you are looking for night life The Esplanade is the place to be. A plethora of bars line the street, Heidi`s Bar at the Fraser Roving Backpackers Resort is a guaranteed good night followed by a visit to Monsoon which is open until the wee hours for all your clubbing needs. Make sure if you are a smoker to get your last one in before 1:30am. The new smoking laws in Queensland prohibit smoking in bars and clubs now (yay!) and if you go outside after 1:30am they will not allow you back in again after.
Check back tomorrow for the all important day time activities!
