It`s wine therapy!

August 15th 2007 10:54
Everyone likes a glass of wine as much as the next - and if you don`t it just means that you have not found the wine that suits your palette yet. There is such a wide variety on the market and it is such an interesting process that if you dare to delve a little you will soon find yourself addicted.

A Sommelier is basically a Wine Waiter. If you go to a posh restuarant and do things right you will have a Sommelier on hand who can tell you the right wine to go with the right food. You may think that one bottle of plonk is just as good as the next, but when you really taste a good wine... savour that taste and swirl it around in your mouth... you will appreciate the price tag that is attached to it. Plus, the flavour of your food is enhanced greatly when it is accompanied by the right wine.

Andreas Larsson was crowned Sommelier of the World 2007. This may seem like a small feat , however when you take into consideration all that goes into such an award you will be forgiven for being left open mouthed.

I recall watching a Sommelier competition where a young man was presented with a wine from an unmarked bottle and was not given any further information. He was able to not only tell what country the wine was made in but was able to pin point the wine growing region within a 30km radius! Now considering how many wine growing regions there are in the world that is an amazing ability when all you have to rely on is your sense of taste and smell!

The wine world is breaking out - you are now able to go for WINE THERAPY! So when someone tells you that wine is bad for you.... you can tell them otherwise. You will have to forgive my rather rusty French translations as the site is in French, but.... here goes!

Who better than the French to make such a discovery. They already produce some of the best wine in the world and have discovered some of the hidden gems found in grapes. Located within the Bordeaux wine region is the worlds first Wine Spa. Le Sources de Caudalie boasts some great
wine therapy where you can find yourself being massaged in merlot or taking a red wine bath. They also have a lot of other treatments available - but let`s face it who would want anything else but the WINE THERAPY! (Apparently you get to drink the stuff too!)

Polyphenol is a substance found in grapes which apparently has anti-aging and healing properties. As well as this they use nutrient rich water found deep underground to assist in your health regime. A 4 day stay will cost you around 724 Euros. So if you have the money why not indulge a little?

Ash,

That is all just too funny. (Sommeliers aside - that was interesting info).

(Apparently you get to drink the stuff too!)

Wine Therapy. What next? (I suppose I could always open a Beer Spa - The Aussie Version). No wonder my small business ideas have been failing. I have to start thinking more laterally - outside the slab.

The palette training I can resist, I do not LIKE alcohol, now, through no fault of mine, I'd risk death if I were to start drinking, so it's just as well I never have.

The Sommeliers sound great but heard of the lower heart death rate in France but the more prevalent liver disease.

We do the best we can inviting the Grim Reaper to all our social occasions, he accompanies us everywhere we go and he's always successful in the end.

He's got me in his sites wherever I go, whatever I do. I don't mind if he hangs around, as long as he still allows me to hang around.

Therapy? well maybe, I guess if anyone gives you some added, sought after, attention, we all feel better, I know you aren't particularly advocating it.

Why do I ramble, 'tis the Irish in me, to be sure, lassie, oops I mean Colleen, the Scottish in me took over for a minute.

This is just me practicing my writing skills.

I'll keep trying.

Loved the post, don't tell me you'll be off to France again soon. Oh, it's all too much, my Scorpios always go.

Hey David

Yeah you really need to jump on this band wagon... they are already opening one in Switzerland. Talk about the power of marketing - is it just the world`s most expensive pub? perhaps someone has watched 'Perfume' and is trying to capture that je ne sais quois just without the murdering bit.

Well Kleopatra bathed in milk I`d say we have come a long way these days and wine would be the next logical step. I wonder if they offer a 12-step programme across the road... their slogan can be 'JUST STUMBLE INN'

I just know that i don`t need any excuse to have a glass of wine - and I mean are you ever too young to start thinking about the anti-aging process?

Thanks for the comment! Good luck with the beer therapy - just remember when you make your first million you heard it here and I need a small cut in the profits!

Hi Katyzzz

Countries which introduce responsible drinking from an early age normally tend to not have too many alcohol problems as the kids grow up. When something is made off limits it becomes more appealing.

Within moderation wine is actually good for your blood and heart... but within moderation. No use having several bottles in an evening and then wonder why your liver packs in down the line.

Get this... after sitting there reading all of it in French I have just discovered there is an ENGLISH VERSION button at the top of the page! It seems to roll up when you click on the images to activate the control! ARGH!!!!

No won`t be off to France again _ I spent a while there already, beautiful country that it is I`d like to try somewhere different!

Crazy! I think I'd prefer to drink it though rather than having a wine massage.

Cheers

I'm up for any massages - even drenched in wine. Why not? Some salons offer chocolate massages. Now if there's one that combines both with strawberries on top, I'll put my hand up.

Hiya CC

Yeah I agree... although the idea of a massage with grapes sounds rather intriguing. Here you get to indulge in both!
