"In some ways, I think travel is about learning how to see, learning how to pay attention. It's an alarm clock in some ways, and it's a jumpstart to putting our senses on the setting where they're universally receptive. I think theoretically we could do that at our homes, and yet somehow, surrounded by familiarity and the routine we know too well, our eyes tend to close and we don't notice the things that are so wondrous for a visitor. But as soon as we physically start moving we awaken to the beauties around us." --Pico Iyer

Lonely and desperate?

Always take the road less travelled

No this is not one of those cheesy dating posts, promising to find your soul mate and bring everlasting love. (Well it might if you decide to embark on the adventure!) Do you have that burning desire to travel and see the world, but hate doing it alone and want someone to share your adventure with? Well Lonely Planet has a space on their website (www.lonelyplanet.com) where you can find travel companions from around the world who are in the same position as you.

(As with anything you just have to be careful about who you go with as there are some weirdo`s out there. I guess there is no realy way of finding this out until you meet them or set out on your adventure, so always be aware of your personal safety. )
While you are on their site take some time to look around. Obviously we have heard of Lonely Planet and I know some people do not go anywhere without their guidebooks tucked firmly under the arm. I have never really been a "Guidebook" traveller, but I find their website teeming with helpful information and ideas as well as inspiration for future travel.
So would you be comfortable hooking up with one of these travellers and indulging in some adventures in far flung corners of the world? Or have you done so in the past? Do you never leave home without your guidebook in your backpack?
