Blowholes, wineglasses and tumbleweed in the wind!
January 9th 2007 21:18
Bicheno is a small town on the East coast of Tasmania. I was fortunate enough to find a small B 'n' B that overlooked the ocean and woke to a fresh, crisp morning, with the sun rising gently above the calm seas.
I had heard about the Blowhole, a hole in one of the rocks where the waves would come crashing through and water would blow out like a whales sprout into the air.
Good Morning Class. Please take your seats. Welcome to HOW TO GET ANNOYED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING 101.......
I stood on this rock, camera aimed at the spot where the water was due to come sprouting forth and waited....and waited.....and waited some more. As soon as I put the camera down.......wooooooossssssshhhhhhhhh!!! This would be the luck that I have though! I managed to get a few shots of some sort of semi attempt at a sprout, however to see the real ones you will have to check it out yourself
..or no, here check out some some shots from people who it actually performed beautifully for.. I swear I got back to the car and every few seconds I could hear the water rushing out of the hole - like a big "up yours mate". ha ha!
On the agenda for today was to head for Coles Bay and the Freycinet National Park that houses many hidden gems, including Wineglass Bay. This beach is considered to be one of the Top 10 most beautiful in the world. It is only accesible by climbing up and over a mountain which means, for the most part, there is no vehicle access to it.
The rugged scenery of Freycinet National Park is out of this world. Calm tourquoise waters lapping at red lichen-covered rocks.....
guide you toward the car park of the trail leading up the view of Wineglass Bay. It is quite a trek up, taking about 45 minutes to climb, but suddenly, as you feel about ready to turn back due to lack of oxygen and stars dancing infront of your eyes you take a few more steps onto the wooden viewing platform to see...
Wineglass Bay. An arcing stretch of white sand that cuts through the blue water, separating it from the green bush that undulates out as far as the eye can see. It is well worth the climb. As well as this you have the balancing rocks that are behind you, forming the top of the mountain. It is a wonder how they precariously dangle over the edge of one another. Coming back down the mountain you are also rewarding with breath-taking views across the other side of the park....
Blood pumping through the veins, brain storing images of great beauty and frustrations of the early morning long gone I returned to the car for a leaisurely drive toward Ross. I had planned to stay there for the night, but when I actually got there I changed my mind. It is a beautiful town, don`t get me wrong, but it was one of those ones that has a ghost-town appearance and feel to it. I swear tumbleweed bounced along the road as I drove through. I managed to find somewhere nearby in Campbell Town and would return the next day to check it out in the lighter hours.

Wow : and what great beauty you had to store away... breathtaking ... nice photo's - ooh even the blow hole...*lol* take heart.
I had a similar incident at Kiama Blow Hole in NSW. Tooka friend who was visiting me from UK, bloody thing didn't evn do as much as yours. I found myself saying stupid things like; "oh well, they must have forgotten to plug it in?" "shall we have lunch and come back later?" *l-ing ol*
now, I say, c'est la vive, You still got to share it ... and still have something to go back there for too... in fact I'd say it's a sure sign that you have to go back there ... or was there something else - more important there for you to see?

Yes how frustrating I can feel your pain I really can! I laugh about it now but at the time......not! *lol* But it was nice to see none-the-less. Like I say that is just my luck though! But I get to have adventures that NO ONE else does so I count myself lucky (*lmao* it has taken a long time for me to take this outlook on travel disasters lol!!!)
I actually never made any plans when I went to Tassie, just a sort of getaway from reality really, so all these things I just happened upon. Rented a car and just drove - I didn`t even take a mapbook. I would like to go back and see the West Coast now and North West.
I have a few more days coming - just took a break over the weekend. Hobart is stunning - I almost ended up staying there!!!!!!
Hope you enjoyed your weekend of pina coladas and concrete laying

I just had another glass with lots of ice and anoterh half a glass and that's another bottle gone - addictive? Ooh... you bet ... you have created a monster!
The slab has settled to perfection and tonight I ran the leveler over it to see how I/we went [always take guides, angels and faeries for earthworking] and to my utter joy it's as level as a dentists filling - but on a bigger scale of course.*l-ing ol* thank you for asking.
Hmmm, love that flavour of rum and pineapple and hmmmmmmmm, coconuts.
.. totally hooked ... but no regrets as I have some self control left, thank God and the angels and faeries and elves and pixies and my darling caveman spirit-guide. Gotta love him *rolling eyes* *giggle*
*l-ing ol again*
Yes, Tasmania,
..A wonderful place of mountains and scenic wonder...
.. and I hope you get back there and I get there... hey, I think we'd enjoy it together actually and I can imagine it'd be fun, especially with a few cases of pina colada's on board! *lol* See if I can't get away for a few days, within the next 10 years *rofl* before my kids leave home ... oh and providing you're not expecting by then ... not that thats a problem, I went snorkelling on the barrier reef when I was five months along.

Excellent news about your concrete slab - I see you had much help with it, your friends will be having a party out there tonight to welcome it to the house I imagine. Perhaps you should leave a little of that Pina Colada for them to celebrate too.
I will leave the kids at home with their father when the time comes for the trip to Tassie - we will dance under waterfalls, drink pina colada`s and sit in silence overlooking calm and quiet waters lapping deserted shores....can you leave tomorrow? *lol*
