"In some ways, I think travel is about learning how to see, learning how to pay attention. It's an alarm clock in some ways, and it's a jumpstart to putting our senses on the setting where they're universally receptive. I think theoretically we could do that at our homes, and yet somehow, surrounded by familiarity and the routine we know too well, our eyes tend to close and we don't notice the things that are so wondrous for a visitor. But as soon as we physically start moving we awaken to the beauties around us." --Pico Iyer

Saw 3

November 2nd 2006 10:05
Well if you have a day like today where it looks like it is about to pour down with rain why not head off to the nice air conditioned movie houses at the Sunshine Plaza? We decided to do this today and ended up seeing SAW 3! Man alive I wish I had just stayed out and baked in the sun and got sandblasted on the beach! It is definatley NOT a chick flick and one of the most gruesome I have ever seen, if not THE worst!
The whole concept behind it is quite good and even though the first one I thought was quite good (the second I didn`t get the chance to see) the third one I spent watching the backs of my eyelids. And that did not help much as the sound effects did not leave much to the imagination so I should not have even bothered with it!

The movie houses at the Sunshine Plaza are great though. Tucked just a few minutes from the beach (Cotton Tree, Sunshine Coast) it is located in the Coasts biggest shopping centre so there is plenty to do before and after. Plus if you get carried away and stay until the hours of darkness there is the Pig And Whistle which is normally open quite late for drinks over looking the tree lined broadwalk of the mall.
See there is always something to do, even when the weather isn`t the greatest!

I've heard that in the UK some cinema goers have passed out and one taken to hospital because the movie is so gruesome. I've yet to see it but there are either some with a really low horror threshold or there really is some graphic content.

Hi Ruth,
Yes I was actually quite taken aback with the visuals in this movie. I don`t normally mind a bit of blood and gore but I think this one they really have out done themselves. I felt physically ill by the time we had left and as I said you don`t even have to watch it, just the sound effects were enough to make your stomach churn.
Seems we are making things more and more acceptable these days - I wonder where they will draw the line.

I think you're probably quite partial to horror flicks, though -- I mean, why did you go in the first place, having seen the first one, knowing what you were in for?

Thanks for the comment Adrian. Yeah I don`t mind them at all, but this was WAY more grahic than the first one. It just seems that we are becoming desensitized to everything these days as boundarires are pushed more until they become acceptable. Don`t get me wrong the whole concept behind the movie is a good one and it is well plotted, but the gore could have been toned down just a little.

Hi Ash

I just know that I couldn't see this film or any of the previous ones, it just seems graphic for the sake of being graphic. At least you tried though!
