"In some ways, I think travel is about learning how to see, learning how to pay attention. It's an alarm clock in some ways, and it's a jumpstart to putting our senses on the setting where they're universally receptive. I think theoretically we could do that at our homes, and yet somehow, surrounded by familiarity and the routine we know too well, our eyes tend to close and we don't notice the things that are so wondrous for a visitor. But as soon as we physically start moving we awaken to the beauties around us." --Pico Iyer

Poetic Skies

November 8th 2007 07:03
Welcome to my hood. On days like today the skies overhead write poetry enough to rival the quill of any great. It has been a while since I have got lost in the lens of my camera. With the glorious weather which we have been having I have been itching to get out there and today could not resist.

Allow me to take you on a journey through my hometown... enjoy the ride and feel free to share any of your own....

Hi Ash,

some great pics there gurrlish!!

I like the use of black and white.

It matches the notion of the weather and helps create the mood.

As a 12 year old I used to wander through the streets of Sydney on a Sunday, or a Saturday afternoon if we were not on the harbour following the 18 footers race. I always had my trusty old Voigtländer camera with me, (the type that folds out and extends with the concertian bellows). It was given to me by my Dad, and I took candid photos of the people in the street, buildings and ones of the Opera House being built...those were the days..except going back to school on Monday!

cheers and here's to your vewwwy krevvver snaps!!

I did Toni

Thanks! It has been such a great few days over here with the clouds in the sky making the perfect opportunity for some B&W picture taking

Hi Epiphanie

I look forward to doing the same myself when I`m in Sydney next week. Wooo hooo!

Thanks Tracy

I was having a look at some of them earlier today and they look mysteriously Mediterranean in B&W. Many tales to be told

Howdy Fog

B&W is soooo much more effective than colour in my opinion too. Love your story of your picture taking moment - I imagine you could make a great book with those photos. I love the grainy effect that comes from this photography.

Thanks for taking the trip people.

Ash,

I agree, they transcend words, don't they.

You are so talented, you should be taking pictures for magazines... they could use some REAL talent.

I love the magic of Black and White and think it is underrated these days. For example that colour pic, looks absolutely 100% in blacka nd white in the banner than in colour.

I like the last one... sort of a worms-eye view.,, awesome.

As always thanks for sharing them, they always inspire me.

Thank you Lilla

your words warm my heart. I too, feel that B&W is highly underrated and try to use it over colour whenever I can.
